As a dedicated Claims Litigation Manager (Auto), you will be responsible for managing moderately complex litigation arising out of the auto contract in compliance with state laws and regulations, to include creating strategy for defense or settlement, evaluating, negotiating, and collaborating with defense counsel to secure appropriate resolution. Accountable for delivering a concierge level of best in class member service through setting appropriate expectations, proactive communications, advice and empathy. This hybrid role requires an individual to be in the office 3 days per week. This position can be based in the following office locations: Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, San Antonio, TX, or Tampa, FL. Must be available to work appropriate business hours to service West coast claims. Relocation assistance is not available for this position. Responsibilities include managing moderately complex litigation including serious injury or property damage, questionable damages, liability and coverage issues; applying intermediate knowledge of claims litigation processes; proactively managing litigation and acting as liaison with members, internal and external counsel; documenting litigation strategy, budget, investigation, evaluation, negotiation, settlement, and trial decisions; representing USAA at mediations, case conferences, and/or trials; reviewing, auditing, and approving legal fees and expenses; partnering and/or directing law firm vendors to facilitate timely lawsuit resolution; holding law firm vendors accountable for following Defense Counsel Litigation Handling Requirements; recognizing and solving routine and intermediate issues in legal case management; following practices and processes to improve team results; interacting with membership, attorneys and management to advise on litigation; ensuring high levels of service to members; acting as an informal resource for team members; and ensuring risks are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with policies. Qualifications include a Bachelor's degree or 4 years related experience, 4 years work experience handling liability and first party claims or progressive litigation experience, 2 years customer contact experience, claims adjusters license or ability to obtain within 3 months, demonstrated negotiation and customer service skills, excellent communication skills, knowledge of P&C policies and state laws, regulatory compliance knowledge, experience handling large losses auto, property or commercial, and proficiency with Microsoft Office tools. Preferred qualifications include 5+ years experience handling casualty liability claims including bodily injury and uninsured/underinsured motorist claims, 2+ years direct handling of Auto Bodily Injury and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Litigation to resolution, familiarity with injury claims litigation processes, experience working California and other West Coast claims, and continuing education with relevant insurance designations. Compensation range is $85,040 - $162,550 with pay based on experience and market data.
