Oversees and supervisors the Police and Security team with primary emphasis placed on the protection of life and asset. Directs personnel involved in establishing, promoting, and maintaining hospital security. Maintains efficient and effective department operation and does so while adhering to all federal and state regulatory standards. Directs the operations and staff of the Police and Security Department; assures safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff. Supervises areas of responsibility and staff reporting to security services leadership at the Medical Center. Evaluates staff performance; reviews and signs all performance appraisals; recommends promotions, pay increases, disciplinary actions, etc.; reviews recommended actions submitted by supervisors; handles employee grievances, as required. Assures compliance with TJC standards as well as other local, state, and federal regulatory bodies (OSHA, Department of Health, etc.) as it relates to security services. Monitors the operation, maintenance and effectiveness of all electronic intrusion, and access control, and video surveillance security systems to assure the proper operability and integrity of equipment. Meets reporting requirements established by the police and security leadership. Respond to acts of violence at Geisinger owned or controlled properties and potentially engage in the use of force as governed by Pennsylvania Law and Geisinger policy. Carry, properly handle, maintain proficiency, and be able to deploy lethal and less lethal weapons as prescribed by federal/state law and Geisinger policy. Tasked with the ability to effect arrests for certain criminal offenses, and issue PA state citations for certain criminal and traffic offenses, using specific law enforcement applications such as the PA Justice Network. Perform as a Geisinger Security Officer when necessary. Handle and manage evidence pertaining to criminal incidents occurring in/on Geisinger owned properties.
