Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history. Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center (NGMC) is seeking a Staff HPC System Engineer. This position is located at Annapolis Junction or Linthicum, MD sites. Responsibilities include overseeing design, deployment, and lifecycle operation of a high-performance compute cluster; leading a team of HPC Systems Administrators; assessing and responding to customer requests for cluster modifications including oversight of requirement gathering and analysis, planning, implementation, verification/validation, and production deployment maintenance; investigating, diagnosing, and resolving acute system faults; ensuring system performance aligns with customer requirements and remains within technical, schedule, and cost constraints; maintaining software deployments and security compliance; monitoring and maintaining hardware; contributing to design of new high-performance compute clusters; interfacing with user support staff; assessing new technology for benefits and risks by performing trade studies of technological function, value proposition, and deployment timeline; assessing and reporting on cluster operational risks and proposing, planning, and deploying mitigation strategies. Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 12 years' relevant experience, or 10 years with a Master’s Degree, or 8 years with a PhD; demonstrated experience maintaining computational hardware through its lifecycle; experience analyzing and responding to customer requirements; strong Linux (Red Hat) systems administration proficiency; strong knowledge and experience with HPC system operations including cluster management, multi-user login environments, job scheduling, and networked file systems; maintaining compliance with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs); compiling software; monitoring and maintaining HPC cluster hardware; directing technical work of a small team of Linux Systems Administrators; strong written and verbal communication skills; U.S. Citizenship; and active US Government security clearance per customer requirements. Preferred qualifications include active TS/SCI with full-scope polygraph security clearance, IAT Level II certification, experience with MPI implementations, high-speed low-latency network fabrics, parallel file systems, and GPUs.
